Friday 28th March, 13.30 - 17.00
Join artisan Andrea Mindel for this embroidery taster workshop. Select the letter of your choosing and create a bespoke, contemporary monogram using traditional goldwork embroidery techniques. Goldwork embroidery has its roots in religious and royal embroidery and is now popular in customising couture and interior design.
Over the course of this workshop, you will learn five Goldwork embroidery techniques.
1. Applying chosen design to fabric using the Prick and Pounce method
2. Couching down Pearl Purl – a beautiful outline technique
3. Felt padding with leather overlay
4. Adding chipping for extra glitz
5. Finishing off with a sequin or two for sparkle
Andrea will be providing a basic embroidery kit for each participant including fabric, gold & metal threads, and an embroidery hoop. A selection of Goldwork scissors will be shared between participants.
Optional Additional Materials
If you’d like your own pair of goldwork scissors, so you can work more independently during the workshop and continue to work on your monogram at home, Andrea suggests these.
If you’d prefer to work with a seated hoop, which allows you to use both hands at the same time giving you more range of motion and speeding up the making process, Andrea suggests this one.
The workshop will be followed by a delicious dinner and glass of Artelium wine.
This workshop is part of the ‘Festival of Making’ week, which kicks off with a Spring Makers Market on the 22nd March followed by a week of creative workshops running from the 24th - 28th March.
