The Artelium Team’s Perfect Picks for Festive Drinks

The Artelium tasting room is glittering with fairy lights, the log burner is roaring, and the South Downs is sparkling with early morning frost: Christmas is coming! We’re beginning to mull-over the best festive feast pairings and which bring the most merriment this jolly season.  With a wealth of wines to choose from, we’re asking the experts (i.e. the Artelium team) their perfect picks for what to drink on the big day.

The Morning

Our picks for a bottle of celebratory sparkling to pop open on Christmas morning, perfect with breakfast and present opening in pyjamas.

Jules, Artelium’s Founder: ‘It’s the Curators Cuvée for me! It kick-starts the day with something lovely; a fantastic pairing with smoked salmon on Christmas morning.’

Simon, Trade & Export Account Manager: ‘I’m really looking forward to having the Makers Rosé first thing on Christmas morning whilst opening stockings with my partner and little girl. I’m pairing it with brioche toast, as it brings out those buttery flavours.’

Alice, Vineyard Assistant: ‘I’ll be cracking open the Blanc de Blancs 2018 on Christmas morning and enjoying it with my family. It’s a great way to start the day!’

The Lunch

Whether you’re in favour of turkey with all the trimmings or something a little more untraditional, here are our suggestions for wines to pair with your Christmas Lunch.

Kate, Arts Coordinator: ‘I’ll be bringing Artefact #9, Cabaret Noir to share with the family at Christmas lunch. Visually, it’s a vibrant addition to the table and the label is a conversation starter. It’s rich, slightly spicy and full-bodied, perfect to pair with dark meats if you’re going non-traditional.’

Tom, Head of Sales: ‘I'll be drinking Artefact #7, Motley Wild with a traditional Christmas lunch. It has an elegance and refreshing quality, keeping it nice and limber, pairing well with turkey, whilst the creamy texture works excellently with the richer elements of the lunch.’

The Afternoon

Whether you're looking for a warming tipple after your post-lunch walk or something to liven up the dreaded game of charades, here are some choices for a jolly afternoon.

Mark, Founder and Creative Director: ‘I’m looking forward to a glass of Artefact #6, our Saingée Rosé. I’m firmly of the belief that Rosé isn’t just a summer drink but equally delightful enjoyed in cooler months. Our Saignée is rich, smokey and complex, perfect for an indulgent sip in front of the fire on Christmas afternoon.’

Hannah, Head of Operations: ‘Although the wine will be flowing all through the day, I’m especially excited to round off the afternoon with a glass of our Collaborators Brandy 2020.

If you’re looking for a curated selection of wines for the big day, our Christmas Case has you covered from the first glass of sparkling in the morning to the cosy post-lunch drink by the fire.
