Our top-picks for the Charleston Festival 2024
We are delighted to be the English wine of choice at this year’s Charleston Festival. We’ve taken a look at the programme and circled some of our must-see speakers.
A century ago, the Bloomsbury Group regularly met at Charleston and advanced ideas and art that have shaped our world. The festival is a celebration of their legacy and an exploration of contemporary culture, both of which pair perfectly with our modern Artelium wines.
Food Wisdom with Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall - Thurs 16th May
What does it mean to eat and drink well? It’s something we pondered while curating our Summer Menu. We’re spoilt for choice here in Sussex when it comes to top produce, so finding that sweet spot between ethically sourced and great taste is possible. We’ll be checking in to get some more ideas.
Being Human with Ravinder Bhogal and Nitin Sawhney - Thurs 17th May
Every day we’re open, we see how food and art can bring people together. So, naturally, this conversation caught our eye. Restaurateur and chef Ravinder Bhogal joins composer and multi-instrumentalist, Nitin Sawhney to discuss the symbiotic relationship between art, food and society.
Judi Dench in Conversation - Wed 22nd May
A name that needs no introduction. But did you know she’s also a fan of English Sparkling wine? Dame Judi Dench will be in conversation with Bill Nighy in one of the most popular events at this year’s shows. The perfect pairing, and one we’ll be raising a glass to. Let’s hope they find their way to the Artelium bar.
Human Architecture with Thomas Heatherwick - Fri 24th May
With our own passion for art and design, and exciting development plans for our estate in the coming years, we’ll be seeking out Heatherwick's talk on human architecture and how form should always follow function.
On Pottery with Florian Gadsbury - Mon 27th May
Anyone who has joined us for a vineyard tour at Streat will know we’re on clay soil. It’s always interested us as a medium for creativity so we’ll be popping our heads into the tent to see Gadsbury, who seeks beauty through simplicity in his work. Later this year artist Kate McInnes will be using Sussex clay in a new exhibition at Artelium, so one to keep an eye out for.
