Sparkling Picnics: Perfect Pairings for Summer Jaunts

We lay and ate the sweet hurt-berries
In the bracken of Hurt Wood...

... At our feet the downs of Sussex broke
To an unseen sea.

Sumer Picnic spread for sparkling wine pairing

Whether you’re down at the beach or up on the Downs, your Summer Picnic spread is never quite complete without a bottle of something sparkling.

At Artelium, we make exceptional wines that make any occasion extra special. We’ve dug through the hamper for some of our favourite classic Picnic dishes that pair perfectly with our Curator’s Cuvée 2019, Blanc de Blancs 2018 and our Makers Rosé 2019.

To celebrate English Wine Week this June, we’re offering complimentary delivery and 10% off this trio of sparkling wines. Use the code EWW2024 at checkout.

CHERRY TOMATO TART

Paired with: Curator Cuvée 2018

Our Curator’s Cuvée 2018 was disgorged in October 2023 and is a Pinot Noir-led blend, meaning it is bursting with fresh red apples and crisp pear giving it the breadth of flavour to balance with the cherry tomatoes in this recipe.

A clean and bright palate helps cut through the butteriness of the pastry, refreshing the palate and making a moreish combination. A decadent five years on the lees lend this Sparkling aromas of fresh pastries which, naturally, complement the Tart.

SMOKED SALMON & CREAM CHEESE BLINIS

Paired with: Blanc de Blancs 2018

Our Blanc de Blancs 2018 is made from Chardonnay. In our cooler climates, the Chardonnay leans towards citrus and makes sparkling wines with aromas of lemon sorbet and lime peel.

Of course, a squeeze of lemon over your Smoked Salmon Blinis is a must. The fresh citrus cuts through the oil and smoke of the fish and lifts the palate.

Blanc de Blancs works in the same way, but with an added creamy texture from four years on the lees giving a layered complexity that is moreish and delicious.

STRAWBERRIES & CREAM

Paired with: Makers Rosé 2019

Nothing is as quintessentially English as Strawberries & Cream with a sprinkle of sugar. It’s wonderful that we now have an English Sparkling wine to match: our Makers Rosé 2019.

The rosé style gives this sparkling a burst of summer fruits, with crisp cranberry and red currants that sit alongside subtle spice and toasted brioche. The red fruits balance well with sweet Summer strawberries.

A bright and youthful style to this Rosé cuts through the double cream, making the pairing a combination of endless Summer joy.
